Thousands are expected to take to Sir Nigel Gresley Square tomorrow when Doncaster Pride returns to the town centre.

The public square on Waterdale hosts the gay celebration event – Party with the Stars – for the first time tomorrow, with X Factor 2012 finalist Nicola Marie Bloor topping the bill.

The event has been staged at Doncaster Racecourse for the past few years.

Nicola will be impersonating Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Shania Twain and Lady Gaga, before closing with her own songs.

And another 14 tribute acts will also be taking to the stage singing songs by big names including Gary Barlow, Beyonce, Neil Diamond, Michael Buble and Rihanna.

Organisers are expecting the best attended Doncaster Pride in years because of its return to the town centre.

The celebration used to be held in the Marketplace.

Spokeswoman Jenny Dewsnap said: “We are back in the town centre and that should increase numbers again.

“We don’t usually talk numbers but I think there may be 3,000 people there.”

There are also bars, a food court, market, funfair and plenty of colourful entertainment.

“Pride isn’t just for the gay community, it’s about bringing people together in a friendly and happy party atmosphere,” said chairman Cath Fox.

“This year’s event really does have something for everyone and we encourage people to come and join the best party in Doncaster all year.”

This year’s Party with the Stars runs from 2pm until 10.30pm.

On the same day You’re Beautiful singer James Blunt performs at Doncaster Racecourse.
