Tom tweeted Louis: ‘@Louis_Tomlinson you even talk about us at your own gigs. Are you that upset you didn’t get in this band?’

The comments came after Louis had mentioned the band, saying: ‘Jake Bugg is supporting The Wanted. Best gig ever.’ at their show in London.

However he did say after that ‘we love those people’ and ‘appreciate those artists.’

But after the comments from Tom Louis tweeted: ‘@TomTheWanted Pal, we both know I wouldn’t waste my time auditioning for your band. You humour me with your bad boy persona.’

The One Direction star then tweeted a link to a story that detailed Tom’s failed X Factor audition.

Tom then taunted the singer saying ‘Yes @Louis_Tomlinson, I don’t need to call producers to beg my way on to a track over my “friends” #crybaby #loyalty #louisgottalent (sic).’

Liam Payne also waded in to stick up for his friend and The Wanted’s Jay McGuinness also became embroiled.

The bands who are both enjoying success in America have had a public rivalry for the last few years
