ONE down - one to go! One Direction star Louis Tomlinson’s relatives raised the roof in the family car when they found out he had notched his first number one hit.

Mum Johannah had just picked up her daughters when they heard on the radio that One Direction had made number one in this weekend’s download chart, smashing records on the way.

Now they are planning a party at their Bessacarr home - where they hope to find out if the group makes it a double this coming weekend, by making it to number one in the main singles charts.

Johannah bought her copy of the song, What Makes You Beautiful, yesterday as it hit the shops. She was not alone, as fans did the same up and down the country.

But the number of sales online had already put the song on top of the download chart after it was released on Sunday morning.

Louis had performed on ITV1 show Red Or Black with the rest of the group - Niall Horan, Harry Stiles, Zain Malik, and Liam Payne - on Saturday evening ahead of the release. Then on Sunday they travelled around the UK by helicopter dropping in to various CD signings.

The group’s hit has also broken Sony’s record for the highest numbers of pre-orders, despite the record label owning top international names including Beyonce and Michael Jackson.

Johannah said: “I was driving, picking up Louis’s sisters, when we heard they were the download number one. We were all just screaming!

“I tried to phone Louis but couldn’t get hold of him until 7.10pm, because he’s been so busy touring in a helicopter they had hired for a tour. He got mobbed by about 4,000 people in Glasgow.

“When his sisters got on the school bus they got on to loads of cheers! Now we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they’re number one in the chart this weekend.

“We’re going to have a party on Sunday night, with all the children, grandparents and Louis’s great grandma, Olive Rothery. She’s 89, but she knows all the words to their song already and sings along. She’s learned about the internet to see what’s on there about him.”

Johannah said Louis is settling in well to the celebrity lifestyle - with a few typically teenage habits thrown in.

“We stayed at Louis and Harry’s flat at the weekend, along with Harry’s parents. They only thing they had in to eat was cereal! They usually get home late and are too tired to cook.

“They seem to be having lots of fun and they’re giggling all the time. We’re amazed by their fan base!”

“Their fans have waited a year for them to get a record out, and I know the boys are really appreciative of that.”
