Bank Holiday Cusworth Music Festival cancelled

A popular annual Doncaster music festival which was set to be headlined this year by Cockney music legends Chas and Dave has been axed.

The Cusworth Music Festival was due to take place at historic Cusworth Hall on August 24 - with X-Factor star Lucy Spraggan also set to appear on the bank holiday bonanza bill.

But poor ticket sales for this year’s show have forced organisers to pull the plug on the festival which last year saw terminally ill rocker Wilko Johnson draw in big crowds.

Stephen Stanley of promoters Solid Entertainments said: “It is with regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Cusworth Music Festival 2014.

“We have worked very hard to try and reproduce the success of last year’s festival, and for it to grow.

“But circumstances are such that based on poor ticket sales, lack of sponsorship and increased costs, would result in unaffordable losses.

“This does not in any way reflect on the artists - we feel it highlights the poor economic climate.

“We would like to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors that have helped and thank the artists and agents that have supported the festival.”

Full refunds are now available from ticket suppliers.

Mr Stanley added: “As an alternative we will be staging a full weekend of live music at Doncaster Leopard, which will be re-opening after extensive refurbishments for the full bank holiday weekend.

“Tickets for Cusworth Music Festival will be valid and can be exchanged for a full weekend ticket at The Leopard.”

It means music lovers can attend all the concerts taking place at the West Street venue which will take place on August 22, 23, 24 and 25.

More details of the replacement shows will be unveiled at Cusworth Music Festival

And an additional family fun festival has also been lined up at The Dome on September 28 from 2pm to 8pm to keep people busy.

The show will feature four tribute acts to Bon Jovi, Abba, Katy Perry and Pink as well as bouncy castles, face painting, children’s attractions, bars, food and other stalls.

Children are admitted for free and adult tickets are £12.
