Dearne cyclists are invited to get on their bikes for a charity ride to help celebrate the arrival of the Tour de France Grand Depart coming to Yorkshire.

The 28 mile ride on Saturday July 12 will start at the RSPB Fairburn Ings nature reserve in Castleford before taking a route along the Trans Pennine Trail and finishing at Old Moor nature reserve in Wombwell.

Julie Mackenzie, of the RSPB, said: “People don’t normally associate the RSPB with cycling but getting out on your bike is a great way to connect with your local countryside and the wildlife that lives there.

“This bike ride will be fantastic for people and families with older children wanting a challenge, and the journey highlights the types of challenges a bumblebee might come against on an epic journey through our urban landscapes.”

To enter this event, visit the Old Moor event pages on www.rspb.org.uk and follow the link. The bike ride is suitable for people aged 12 years and over.”
