Sporting legends from, Mexborough Dennis Priestley and Tommy Joyce, unveiled the newly refurbished Montagu Arms at a VIP launch.
More than 100 people attended the launch, where local residents were entertained by a magician and were among the first to see the pub’s new look following a £400,000 joint investment.
The pub, which is owned by Punch Taverns and run by Ray and Rita Dowen, has undergone substantial redevelopment and now boasts a new stylish interior and fresh décor.
As well as the brighter interior design, the pub also boasts a new sports area complete with multiple TV screens showing live sports. Those looking for a bite to eat are also catered for, with pies now available.
Licensee Lee said that it was important the pub kept its local identity within the community: “I believe we have created a great environment for all and that is really paying off with the comments we have received from our customers. They love the new décor and the fact that there is always Sky Sports being shown.
“There was a great turn out at the launch, and it was fantastic to have darts champion Dennis Priestley and boxing legend Tommy Joyce open the pub as the home of sport in Mexborough. We will be showing every World Cup match and have some big plans for England’s group games and hopefully other matches.
