Tourists from all over the world descended on Conisbrough for a grisly history lesson.
Actor John White took the role of Gilbert Savage, medieval executioner, for a series of talks at the 11th century Conisbrough Castle keep, to tell visitors how people would be scarred for life for stealing, or brutally put to death for treason.
He put in 10 performances over the weekend, over two days, in sun-drenched conditions.
He said the grass in the keep lent itself beautifully to his performance.
He said: “This show is about crime and punishment.
“Everything I say in the show is absolutely true, and that is sometimes difficult for people to believe.”
