Hatfield Main stayed top of the Doncaster Over 55s Snooker League with a closely fought 3-2 success over Trades Club, writes John Mitchell.

Eric Bint gave Trades a 1-0 lead before Brian Blaydon levelled it up for the league leaders.

Derrick Jennings put Hatfield in the lead for the first time, but Alan Marley’s win meant the game would go to a deciding frame, where John Galbraith took the win to keep Hatfield in pole position.

Askern Sports ensured that the title race will go down to the wire as they kept up the pressure in second place with a whitewash 5-0 win over Hyde Park Warriors.

Phil Spencer, Pete Spencer, Henry Morris, Baz Deakes and Tommy Collins ensured a comfortable win.

West End Bentley leaped above Wheatley Club into third place after overcoming them 4-1.

Ray Smith took the opening frame for Wheatley but that was as good as it got as they slipped down to fourth in the table.

John McWilliams, John Cooper, Dave Holland and Willie Moore turned it around for Bentley to keep up a potential late charge.

Catholic Club round off the top five with two games left to play after their 4-1 success over Hawthorn.

Rob Scott got Hawthorn off to a good start as he won his frame 57-33, but similarly to Wheatley, that was to be as good as it got for Hawthorn.

Nigel Hirst, Bryan Thompson, Bill Collinson and Charlie Morgan were all victors to send Catholic Club home happy.
