IS this the greatest rugby team in Doncaster?
The 1,500 Castle Park faithful certainly think so as they burst into a rendition of the Dragons' theme tune 'Simply the Best' at the finish.
It was a fitting end to an unbeaten season at home for Doncaster as they demolished the fifth placed club with an extraordinary display of open rugby in which they ran in 14 tries.
Darlington came to spoil Doncaster's champagne celebrations and began in determined style but Derek Eves' men showed their championship class and destroyed them with their inventive play.
What made the victory even more impressive was the fact that the visitors never let their heads drop and continued battling to the final whistle.
But the gulf between the sides was striking as Doncaster showed they are more than ready to step on to the national stage.
Matt Brain's opening score in the 6th minute was followed by a procession of tries with James Mortimore, Chris Conway and John Liley all recording hat tricks.
Liley also added eight goals although he missed two or three conversion attempts early in the game that he would normally have kicked in his sleep.
It was a spectacular show from Doncaster by any standards in view of the opposition and Eves rated it the best of the season.
Few would disagree and when the final whistle ended Darlington's agony the celebrations began in earnest following the presentation of the championship trophy to captain Conway by RFU representative Neil Hannah.
* Doncaster recovered in time to clinch a comfortable 58-11 away win over Pocklington as they began their Yorkshire Cup campaign on Tuesday night.
