Coach Jamie Lennard paid tribute to Hill House School’s up-and-coming rugby stars after their under-14 side finished runners up in the prestigious Giggleswick Sevens tournament.
Hill House defeated Stoneyhurst (17-12), Stockport Grammar School (34-5) Ermysteds Grammar School (38-7) and RGS Lancaster (35-5) to top their pool.
The Doncaster school then despatched Barnard Castle from Durham 28-7, only for the final against Kirkham Grammar to prove a bridge too far as their unbeaten opposition ran out 28-7 winners.
Doncaster Knights’ Lennard said: “It is great to see that the boys have taken on board a lot of the skills that we have worked on.
“Many of the players also play for the Knights’ under-14 side and I am really happy that this team’s success is being mirrored by the work that the Knights minis and junior section are doing.
“Eight of this squad have recently been selected for the South Yorkshire under-14 squad. Hopefully some of them will join up with Knights’ senior squad in the not too distant future.”
