Rotherham Titans, who resume training tomorrow after a week off, today announce the signing of a new prop to strengthen the squad following the long term injury to forward Toby Williams.
Jack Cosgrove, who has been playing for Edinburgh without appearing regularly in the Pro 12 competition, starts at the Clifton Lane club tomorrow and may be included in the squad for Sunday’s Championship game at Nottingham.
Cosgrove is familiar with South Yorkshire having been on loan at Doncaster; Rotherham tried to sign him in the summer but the deal fell through, but now the Coventry born prop will be on loan at the Titans for up to six months to cover for Williams who is recovering from a serious arm injury.
“Cosgrove’s move suits us both because we need to boost the forwards in the absence of Williams and Jack needs to play,” explains Rotherham’s forwards coach Steve Salvin.
“We had hoped to bring Dan Sanderson back from Worcester Warriors and a hooker from there as well, but that’s not going to happen now, so instead there’s a chance we may get a second row forward and hooker from Leicester Tigers.
“The hope is that they would come on loan, but nothing concrete has been fixed up yet,” Salvin added.
Although Rotherham have two fit hookers in Charlie Maddison and Jack Preece, they need another because of an injury to Darran Harris who won’t play again until sometime next month.
As well as Cosgrove being considered for Nottingham, coach Mark Jones may also decide to pick Canadian international Kyle Gilmour for the squad.
Gilmour has still to make his Titans debut, and it’s also possible that fly half Will Goodwin, out recently with an ankle injury, will return now that he’s back training.
Meanwhile, centre Jordan Davies should be fit for Nottingham because the knee injury he suffered during the recent win against London Welsh is thought not to be serious.
