In claiming their first league double of the season, Knights extended their winning sequence against the Green and Whites, dating back almost three years, to six games.

Knights got off to a flying start and led 5-0 after just three minutes, Tongan flanker Jack Ram created the position an over-thrown lineout from which scrum-half Michael Heaney found Colin Quigley on the blind side and the veteran prop forward celebrated his return to action following a neck problem when touching down out wide for an unconverted try.

Having drawn a blank in his previous years at Castle Park Quigley has now scored four tries this season.

Notts hit back strongly but Knights withstood the pressure and added to their lead on 18 minutes.

Skipper Michael Hills, who had one of his best games of the season, opened up the Nottingham defence in midfield to send second-rower Matt Challinor over.

Fly-half Simon Humberstone added the extras to make it 12-0.

The home side opened their account with a Tiff Eden penalty.

Knights opened up a commanding 19-3 lead just after the half-hour mark when the home side conceded a penalty try when trying to pull down a rampant Doncaster pack during a catch and drive routine close to the line.

Nottingham returned to the attack but good work from Hills won his side a relieving penalty close to the line.

Notts were the first side to threaten after the interval.

Wing Curtis Wilson fumbled the ball which gave Eden the chance to kick it towards the line and but for Humberstone tracking back Notts would have scored their first try. They continued to take the game to Knights and Eden reduced the deficit to 13 points with a 47th minute penalty.

Little had been seen of Knights as an attacking force in the second half until the final quarter when Humberstone hit the target with a 70th minute penalty after the home side had been penalised for not rolling away following good work by Mat Clark in the build-up.

Knights rung the changes in the last ten minutes during which time hooker Ben Hunter touched down from a driving lineout to claim a the all-important fourth try which saw fifth-placed visitors move to within a point of the top-four.
