International rugby union comes to Yorkshire as Doncaster host England match

Doncaster has been chosen to host an England women's Test match this autumn.

The RFU has selected Doncaster Knights' Castle Park ground for the match against Canada on Sunday November 18.

England Women will also play the USA at Saracens' Allianz Park stadium and Ireland at Twickenham as part of the 2018 Quilter Internationals series.

The Knights play in the Championship - the second tier of men's rugby union in England - and have a professional squad. Their ground capacity is 5,000.

It is the first time the women's squad have played in Yorkshire, although Castle Park has hosted England men's under-19 fixtures in the past. New Zealand Maori took on a Championship XV there in 2012.

The clash with Canada will be broadcast live on Sky Sports at 2pm.

England Women head coach Simon Middleton said:

“With no summer tour this year, the Quilter Internationals cannot come soon enough. The squad are raring to go and we couldn’t wish for a better start than against the USA.

“They are an international team on the rise, evidenced by their performance in the semi-final of last year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup.

“We are really excited to host a first women’s international in Yorkshire before returning to Twickenham which is always a great occasion.”

RFU director of professional rugby Nigel Melville added:

“This is an excellent opportunity to take the Red Roses to new audiences. We are really excited to work with Castle Park and Doncaster Council to deliver a world-class international in front of a big crowd.”
