Hall Cross Academy U14s have claimed the Doncaster Schools Rugby title after a 22-15 victory over Trinity Academy in the Castle Park final.
After losing to Trinity 32-12 earlier in the season, Hall Cross set about their task from the off, and opened the scoring after five minutes when winger Harry Ramsbottom crossed for a try in the corner.
However, Hall Cross wouldn’t have it all their own way as Trinity scored the game’s next two tries to lead 10-5 after 11 minutes, a scoreline they saw through to half-time.
Hall Cross coaches Sam Taylor and Dan Storey’s half-time team talk worked wonders, as second row Ethan Hardy drove in under the posts for their second try, giving fly-half Adam Wilson an easy conversion to swing the game back in Hall Cross’ favour, 12-10.
Inside centre Louis Birkill continued to take the game to Trinity, before Wilson scored and converted a try to leave Hall Cross in command.
It was then Trinity’s turn to enjoy a spell of pressure but Hall Cross’ defence stood firm, and Wilson looked to have put the game out of sight with a penalty to extend the lead.
Despite a late rally and a try with the game’s last play, Trinity came up short, leaving Hall Cross captain Owain Herring to lift the trophy. Wilson claimed man of the match for his 12 points.
