Doncaster Knights: Charlie Beech loving life at Castle Park
Prop Charlie Beech has featured on the losing side in both Championship games between Doncaster Knights and Coventry.
Beech played for Coventry when Knights became only the second team at that stage of the season to beat them at the Butts Park Arena in January.
He was also on the losing side in Saturday’s return at Castle Park as last season’s National One champions beat Knights 41-33 in the return to claim their first away win of the season.
“It wasn’t an ideal result for us,” said Beech who joined the Knights a couple of months ago.
“Coventry didn’t have to work hard for two of their tries but fair play to them for capitalising on their opportunities which you have to away from home especially. At the end of the day they deserved to win just as Knights had done at the Butts Park Arena.
“I’ve obviously still get on with the boys at Coventry but I didn’t speak to anyone in the build-up because you don’t want to give anything away.
“But they probably targeted the game as they wouldn’t have wanted to go throughout the season without an away win and they possibly thought Saturday’s game offered a better chance than Jersey this weekend.
“They came up here with a game plan which worked. They didn’t do anything I didn’t expect and stuck to their usual expansive game.”
Despite mixed results since his arrival at Castle Park Beech – who has already impressed the coaching staff - has no regrets at moving to the South Yorkshire club.
“I was spending over two hours each way in the car every day travelling from Knaresborough so logistically it makes more sense to be at Doncaster.
“The players and the coaches are great at Doncaster and I’m loving being here.
“I’m looking forward to being here next season and the club doing well. Doncaster have a history of being a top-four team and there is nothing stopping us being back up there next season with the players coming in.
“But before we start thinking of that we’ve got to take on Cornish Pirates at home this weekend in our last game of the season.”
