Doncaster Toll Bar made a winning return to action in the Pennine Amateur Rugby League Premier Division with a hard-fought 26-6 victory at Upton.
Toll Bar opened up a 10-0 lead when Joe Barron crossed in the corner for a try converted from the touchline by Shaun Roberts, and former Dons star Craig Lawton powered his way over.
Upton threatened a comeback but Toll Bar extended their lead to 16-6 with a converted try by half-back Roberts, before finishing strongly and adding two more tries through Holt and Kieran Cross with Roberts adding another conversion.
“After four weeks off to get out on the field and play was a great feeling,” said Toll Bar coach Ian Tattersall.
“I thought the lads were great because Upton is a tough place to play and we dealt with it really well.
“These are the type of games we want and are certainly more satisfying than easy wins.
“There were some good individual performances but the team work ethic really shone through. We lost a couple of players during the match and players had to play out of position which affected our attack a bit so that’s an area we will be looking to improve. However, our defence was excellent.
“We’ve got Fryston at home this weekend and that will be another step up but we will be giving it our all to make it four wins from four.”
