Dons coach Tony Miller, who will step down at the end of the season, said he will fully support his successor Paul Cooke.

Miller is finishing his 23-year association with the club because of increasing work commitments.

However, Miller maintains he’s still “as passionate as ever” to finish Doncaster’s season on a high and oversaw a vital 30-26 win over Hunslet on Sunday.

“I’ll still be a fan and offer some kind of support but not on the coaching staff,” said Miller, who recommended Cooke to the board.

“They’ve got a good replacement in Paul Cooke and he’s keeping the same backroom staff so I’m sure that the club will kick on.

“The big thing for us is that we stay in the division and get in the play-offs. We’ve spoken with the players and we’re all pulling together to finish the season.

“I want to go out on a high and I want to make sure that the team is definitely in this division so I’ll be giving it my all for the next eight games and I know the players will, I’m still passionate.”

Miller, who works at Xblades Sports in Bentley, went on: “It’s the time when we’re recruiting players now so I needed to make sure that it’s Paul that does the recruiting. I can’t recruit and then not be at the club, it wouldn’t be fair.

“I’m going to support Paul in the recruitment and targeting players, I want the team to be the strongest it can be next year because I’m going to be coming down and supporting them.”

Player-coach Cooke added: “I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and I will do my best to improve the players not only as individuals but as a group.

“A massive thanks to Tony and the backroom staff for helping me in my return to the game.”

Miller has been involved with the Dons for 23 years as player, three-time assistant and two-time head coach. He will leave the club fresh from the highs of last year which brought the Dons’ first title as part of the league and play-off double.
