Doncaster missed the opportunity to rubberstamp their place in the Championship play-offs as they lost 24-10 at Dewsbury Rams last night.

Tony Miller’s men require two more points from their last two matches to seal a top eight finish.

The Dons, who had been on a six-match unbeaten run, trailed for the duration of a fiery Yorkshire derby.

Danny Cowling gave the Dons the lead on 12 minutes when he raced 90 metres to break the deadlock.

But the Rams replied straight from kick off as Brad Watkinson touched down and Kieran Hyde added the first of his three successful conversions.

Kane Bentley barged his way over and the rampant Rams threatened to run away with proceedings when Tommy Gallagher scored following an excellent pick up and offload from Jonathan Schofield.

An explosive game erupted after the break when Cowling and Hyde were both yellow carded for fighting.

And the home side were soon down to 11 when Karl Pryce saw yellow for a high tackle.

However, James Craven leaped to gather a high bomb to make the score 22-4, before Dale Morton added a penalty just before the hour mark.

The Dons hit back with a Dennis Tuffour try, expertly converted by Dave Scott, but it was not enough.
