THE Dons bowed out of the Northern Rail Cup after a brave display at Co-operative Championship outfit Hunslet.
Carl Hughes scored two second half tries at the South Leeds Stadium as Doncaster battled in vain for a quarter final berth.
Hawks lead 10-0 at the break after tries from Steve Lewis and Luke Haigh, plus a Danny Ratcliffe conversion.
Hughes went over five minutes after the restart to get the Dons off the mark but it was not long before Hunslet’s John Oakes touched down at the other end.
On 55 minutes Hughes crossed the whitewash again and Paul Cooke’s conversion narrowed the deficit to four points.
But the Hawks sealed their place in the last eight of the cup two minutes from time with a Lee Brickwood try, converted by Ratcliffe.
Tony Miller’s side now turn their attention to Sunday’s Co-operative Championship One opener at home to Whitehaven (3pm).
