Gary Thornton has been unveiled as Doncaster RLFC’s new head coach.
The former Batley Bulldogs and York City Knights coach succeeds Paul Cooke who left by mutual consent last month with the Dons rooted firmly to the bottom of the Championship.
Thornton was introduced to the media at Dons’ Lindholme training base this afternoon.
He will be assisted by former Dons player Peter Green.
Thornton parted company with York last year after failing to win promotion from Championship One.
He coached Castleford Tigers U20s academy side from 2009-2012, following a six-year spell with Batley.
Thornton takes over at Doncaster with the side still searching for their first win of the season, having lost all 16 of their competitive fixtures this term.
His first game in charge will be away at Bradford Bulls on Sunday.
