“It’s a massive game because not only do we want to build on last weekend’s win over Keighley and build some momentum but we also need to be beating teams like Workington who are around us in the table,” said Dons No 2 Pete Green.

“But Derwent Park, with its compact pitch, is never an easy place to go and this weekend will be no exception.

“They have a big pack with such as (Tongan international) Fuifui Moimoi and we are expecting another physical game as was the case against Keighley.

“We picked up several injuries during the game and full-back Richard Owen, centre Connor Bower and second-rower Charlie Martin are all ruled out this weekend.

“Charlie aggravated an elbow injury he has had for a couple of weeks and wanted to play tomorrow but we decided he’d be better off resting it.”

To add to the club’s problems centre Liam Welham is unavailable due to work commitments and dual-registered prop Ross Osbourne suffered a hamstring injury in training this week.

Dual-registered Cameron Scott is added to the squad as is Jack Miller and winger Aaron Jones-Bishop.”

Green said that the squad was in good spirits, boosted by the win over Keighley, and that preparations had gone well this week.

“We had a light session on Tuesday because it had been such a physical game at the weekend, but had a longer session than normal on Thursday and because we got through everything we wanted to get through this week we were able to give the players an evening off last night to help them recharge for tomorrow.

The only team to beat leaders Bradford,Town go into the game on the back of a 40-8 defeat at second-placed York.

“They’ll be looking for a reaction and looking to bounce back and if we give them the sort of opportunities through such as penalties or handling errors, then we could be in for a tough afternoon.

“But if we can control the ball, like we did in the second half at the weekend, and tidy up our discipline – which we talk about every week in training – then I fancy our chances because when we get things right we’ve shown we can give anyone in this division a game.”
