Doncaster RLFC v Featherstone Rovers: Dons '˜realistic' ahead of tough Challenge Cup tie

Doncaster RLFC boss Richard Horne is under no illusions how tough Sunday's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fifth round tie against Featherstone Rovers (3pm) will be even with home advantage.

“They are a quality team and they are flying high in the Championship so they’ll be coming here with plenty of confidence,” said Horne.

“We’ll go out there and enjoy it. We’ll move the ball about and try and test them defensively and see what we can create and see what happens.

“They’ve got several former Super League players and they are a very physical side but we’ve had a look at them this week and we’ve been working on things that could maybe earn us the spoils.

“But we are also being realistic. We are up against a top Championship team and the league is our main focus this season.

“Certainly winning promotion back to the Championship is more important than the Challenge Cup.

“Having said that we’d like to make it through to the next round when the top eight Super League clubs enter the competition.

“That is the goal we set ourselves at the start of the season and realistically we’ve got a chance.

“Featherstone had a few wobbles at the start of the season but they’ve put a good run together and are up to second.

“We are probably catching them at the wrong time because they are in good form. But so are we.

“We’ve been posting a lot of points and if we defend how we know we can defend then we’ll be in with a shout on the day.

“The fact that we gave a good account of ourselves in two pre-season friendlies against Championship clubs will give us confidence going into the game.

“We’ll give it a go.”

“We’ve got some experienced players in the side and we’ve got some younger ones who are full of energy who want to play and want to get better.”
