Doncaster RLFC: Pete Green reflects on record winning run and victory over North Wales

The Dons set a new club record of nine successive league wins when beating North Wales Crusaders at the weekend.

They will surpass their best ever winning run in all competitions if they beat the Cumbrians this weekend in what will be a dress rehearsal for their promotion play-off semi-final seven days later.

'Obviously to break the record was a great achievement especially considering the calibre of some of the teams we have beaten during the run and where we were when the run started,' said assistant coach Pete Green.

'We set ourselves a target of winning 70-80 per cent of our remaining games a couple of months ago - though we were wanting to win every one of them - in order to try and get into the top five.

'I'm sure some people doubted that we could do it but we have and we're now guaranteed third spot and a home game in the play-off semi-finals.

'As a club we are in a good place now. The players are confident and in good spirits and because we rotated the squad they are fit and healthy whereas a lot of teams are playing players who are busted.'

Reflecting on the win over Crusaders, Green said: 'It was all about getting the result and we knew it probably wouldn't be very pretty with it being a tight pitch.

'I don't think that we were at our best on the day and I think anyone watching the game on the streaming app will not have been that impressed.

'But we don't think we've got a lot to improve upon and we are confident of getting back to where we should be, especially with having two influential players back this weekend.

'The preparations weren't ideal because of a crash on the motorway which caused a lot of disruption and we had to scrap plans to stop for something to eat and we arrived at the ground a lot later than expected.

'It was a game we were expected to win so there was a bit of pressure and we looked a bit flat in the first 20 minutes or so but we picked up and scored some good tries and got the job done.'
