Doncaster RLFC: Leigh trip not Mission Impossible - Robinson

Doncaster club captain Craig Robinson does not rate Sunday’s Championship play-off tie at Leigh as Mission Impossible.

“We know it’s going to be tough because they’ve finished top of the league and they are unbeaten at home,” said the strong-running prop.

“But we gave them a good game for an hour when we played them over there in the league; they just ran away with it in the end. The final score didn’t reflect the game.

“We also beat them at home, so I can’t see why we can’t go there and give it a good go on Sunday.

“As a result of finishing fourth, we’ll have a second bite of the cherry and be at home in the next round if we lose.

“But we won’t be thinking of that on Sunday. We’ll be going there to try and win the game.

“Unfortunately we’ll be without several players who picked up injuries against Batley at the weekend, but whatever side we put out we’ll be giving it a good go.”

Reflecting on the 34-10 defeat by Batley, which saw the club drop to fourth and miss out on a trip to second-placed Featherstone, Robinson admitted: “They wanted it more on the day. They knew they had to win to stay up.

“Their back three (two wingers and full-back) in particular, got a roll on and we struggled to handle them.

“Getting those two early tries boosted their confidence, but we never felt that they were that far away from us even though we trailed 18-6 at half-time.

“We knew that we had to score first after the break which we did through Lee Waterman.

“We put a lot of pressure on their defence but we didn’t create a lot of chances and when we did we weren’t clinical enough.

“We’ll certainly have to play better on Sunday, because Leigh have some very good players.”
