Doncaster RLFC: Horne hails '˜massive result' against Keighley
Doncaster RLFC picked up a morale-boosting 29-20 Betfred League One win over Keighley in their last game at the Keepmoat Stadium for nearly two months.
But they had to overturn a 14-0 deficit to deny the in-form visitors a fourth successive win in an entertaining clash between two teams who started the game level on points.
“They started really strongly, which we knew they would because they probably felt that we were wobbling after successive defeats, and we didn’t handle it well,” said head coach Richard Horne.
“We spoke about discipline in the build-up because if you give them the opportunity to hurt you in your own 20 then they will take it which they did.
“I was certainly happy to come in at half-time only 14-12 down having had a 47 per cent completion rate and the fact that we had conceded seven of the nine penalties.
“We knew that we were up against it in the dressing room at half-time but the boys showed great character in the second half which was a reverse of the first.
“Having gone ten minutes before we completed our first set in the first half we started the second with ten from ten and scored some good tries to lead 26-14.
“But, just as we had done in the first half, they came back towards the end of the second and caused us a few anxious moments.
“It was a massive result for us and one we needed.
“But we need to be better in certain aspects of our game to give ourselves a chance because we showed that when we complete our sets we look a threat will the ball.
“In previous weeks (when losing against Hunslet and Oldham) we’d made it hard for ourselves because of our handling errors and lack of discipline.”
