DONCASTER will face Rochdale Hornets in the next phase of the Co-operative Championship One Play-offs Series after they brushed aside Whitehaven at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Stewart Sanderson and Gareth Potts both scored twice and Scott Spaven kicked five goals as Tony Miller’s men produced a ruthless performance to eliminate a strong Haven outfit.

Potts went over in the corner after six minutes and quick fire tries from Sanderson and Mick Butterfield saw the Dons race into an 18-0 lead midway through the first period, Spaven converting each score.

Haven’s Carl Slice touched down at the base of the post and Lewis Palfrey added the extras to reduce the deficit to 12 points.

But Sanderson rounded off a flowing Doncaster move, with Spaven again converting, to make it 24-6 at half time before Potts went over for his second try on 50 minutes.

Grant Edwards got his name on the trysheet just after the hour mark, allowing Spaven to take his personal points tally to ten.

And although Lee Doran and Brad Crellin replied with late tries for Whitehaven, the visitors were second best to a disciplined and dynamic Dons side.
