DONCASTER Rugby League Club boss Tony Miller has added to his squad ahead of the return to pre-season training at the end of the month by signing former Hessle Rugby Union centre Andy Townend.
“I’m delighted to have Andy on board with us,” said Miller. “He’s a big, strong runner with good defence and can play either prop or second row.
“His versatility further strengthens our squad for the new season and he will provide welcome competition in the forward department.”
The 28-year-old had previously trained with the Dons but was unable to sign forms at the time due to his work commitments.
Prior to switching codes Townend had previously played league for Cottingham Tigers and represented Hull FC’s Academy.
“I’m thrilled Doncaster have given me an opportunity to get back into rugby league,” said Townend.
“I feel I’ve got a point to prove and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and stake my claim for a regular place in the pack.”
The club are looking to appoint a part-time physiotherapist to join the club. The ideal candidate must be IMMOFP qualified and have previous experience.
