Rovers Sunday League: Scawthorpe keep pressure on Sporting Wadworth

Scawthorpe Athletic moved up to third in the Doncaster Rovers Sunday League Premier Division with a 4-0 win over Rossington FC.

A defensive error led to Stefan Cairns opening the scoring for Scawthorpe.

Tom Dorgan then brought down Shaun Munday in the box and Reece Fielding converted the penalty to double the home side’s lead.

Daniel Bell saw red for a dangerous tackle in 55th minute and Rossington piled the pressure on but could not test the home goalkeeper.

Gary Munday spotted the goalkeeper off his line and shot from all of 60 yards to make it 3-0 before Fielding curled in a late free-kick to complete the scoring.

Scawthorpe are only four points behind leaders Sporting Wadworth and have three games in hand.

Wadworth ground out a 1-0 home win over bottom side Social Athletic, while fourth-placed AFC Royal lost ground with a 2-1 defeat to resurgent Canal Tavern.

Rakkam won 3-1 at home against Bessacarr and Rosehill Press lost 2-1 to in-form AFC Mallard.

FC Independent scored a 95th minute equaliser to share the points with Bayer Leopardkusen following an entertaining 3-3 draw which included four penalty kicks. Craig Fletcher scored a hat trick of penalties for Bayer.

Championship leaders FC Ivanhoe secured a 5-2 victory against The Crown.

Second-placed Durban Plough are hot on the heels of the leaders after winning 4-2 at Stainforth FC.
