Eleanor Kidney and Sophie Parkinson combined for an equalizer just before half time.

Kidney dribbled through Rotherham’s defence to make it 2-1 before a great finish by Evie Sprenger wrapped up the win.

Hill House School’s director of sport Katie Barnes said: “It was wonderful to get this game on and many thanks to Rotherham for playing.

"The Hockey Association’s Covid protocols are very sensible and allowed a full and competitive game with all players, coaches and parents feeling very safe.

"The girls, who haven’t played a match for six months, were magnificent and did us proud – to beat a ladies club’s 1st XI is no mean feat.

"We look forward to leading the way further for school hockey in the North East with more fixtures shortly for various age groups. Well done girls!”

*Doncaster Hockey Club’s first teams start their respective national league campaigns this weekend.

The ladies travel to Loughborough Students on Saturday before the men open up at home to Preston on Sunday (2pm).

Both teams play in Conference North, England’s third tier.
