Teams in the Yorkshire South Premier League have been split into two groups for a 40-over League Cup competition as a result of the delayed start.

The weather played its part and the game at Town Fields was reduced to 32 overs per side, with visitors Wickersley falling 17 runs short of a target further reduced due to rain.

Bilal Anjam (42) and Charlie Kaye (44) added 57 in a crucial third wicket partnership in the hosts’ 150-9. Nathan Taylor, with an unbeaten 45 and four wickets, did not deserve to be on the losing side but the visitors, set 138 from 25 overs, could only reach 120-3.

Elsecar posted 178 in a 36 overs per side game at Tickhill, thanks to Peter Hadfield (45) and Tanzeel Ali (84). Tickhill were going well in response as Mark Cummins (33no) and Ross Diver (51) put on an 89-run opening stand but rain forced the players off with Tickhill just six runs short of the DLS par score.

Conisbrough beat Sprotbrough by 75 runs in the South Yorkshire League Championship. Danyaal Latif (67) anchored the home side’s 183-8 from their 40 overs. Ben Lyons top scored with 40 in Sprotbrough’s reply of 108 all out, with Josh Whittaker claiming 4-14.

Askern Welfare and Hatfield Town made winning starts in Division One of the Pontefract & District League, defeating Streethouse and Rothwell respectively. Hooton Pagnell lost at Fairburn, while Brodsworth Main’s game with Darton was abandoned.
