Doncaster Town maintain perfect start but Tickhill still searching for first win

Doncaster Town maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the Western Group of the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League’s Jack Bland Trophy with a five wicket victory over Elsecar.

Elsecar batted first and were put on the back foot when Duncan Heath (3-11) took three cheap wickets to reduce them from 32-1 to 43-4.

Despite a fifth-wicket stand of 44 between Riecko Parker-Cole and Tanzeel Ali, the visitors could muster only 135-8 in their 40 overs.

Doncaster lost a couple of early wickets but a third-wicket stand of 51 between Bilal Anjam (35) and Charlie Kaye (28) set them up for a comfortable win.

Town are at home again this Saturday (noon) against Appleby Frodingham, who beat Wickersley OV by ten wickets to keep up the pressure on the leaders.

Tickhill suffered a fourth straight defeat as they lost to second-placed Treeton by 37 runs.

The highlight for Treeton, who posted 242-7, was a magnificent innings of 116 by the experienced Steve Foster.

Foster added 130 for the third wicket with Jack Simmonite (57).

Mark Cummins and Chris Wood (59) got Tickhill off to a good start with an opening stand of 80.

Jack Curtis weighed in with 43 off 41 balls in a spirited response but ultimately the target was too steep for them.

Tickhill host win-less Wickersley Old Village on Saturday (noon).

Sprotbrough lost to Cleethorpes by 32 runs in the South Yorkshire League Championship.

Daniel Wright took 4-40 as the visitors posted 192-6. Sprotbrough responded with 160 all out, including 43 not out from Ashley Langdale.
