Ben Grayson, from Armthorpe, currently leads the A&R Racing Pre-National 600 Sport Championship after winning three out of four races at Donington Park.

Doncaster’s Josh Hipwell lies third in the standings.

Their duel evokes memories of the 1980s when Curt Langan and Gordon Allott contested the Marlboro and Pro-Am Championships.

Grayson led from start to finish in the opening race with Harworth teenager Hipwell in second place, just managing to stay ahead of Cheshire rider Sam Ho.

Grayson led an increasingly wet race two for the first eight laps but failed to arrive at the finish line on lap nine, the final lap. Jack Pearce claimed victory with Hipwell coming home sixth.

The following day’s races saw Grayson take an early lead in race one, which he held throughout. Hipwell was involved in a scrap with Ho and Thomas Major which ended with him taking fifth place.

The final race was another victory for Grayson with Ho, who stands second on the leaderboard, finishing second. Hipwell was involved in a race-long battle with Major but got past him on the final lap to take fourth.
