Despite the big margin of victory, it was the visitors who started stronger and ran into a 12-0 lead within 15 minutes.

Despite conceding the two early scores, Phoenix hit back and took control of the game with unconverted tries from scrum-half Matty Drennan and flanker Will Taylor to claw it back to a 12-10.

Phoenix were gradually getting on top and with Peterborough conceding countless penalties the home side finished off the half with two further tries from James Wright and a first score for the club for Arran Tasker.

With both tries converted by fly-half Will Burden, the hosts went 24-12 at the break.

Peterborough started the second period as they had the first with a try scored out wide which went unconverted to leave the score at 24-17.

This just spurred Phoenix to up the gears and Will Smith picked up a brace of tries, whilst Burden and winger Dan Greenslade also crossed the line, with full-back Seth Adams converting two of the four tries to make it 48-17.

Tasker then went over, following a forward drive, and Adams converted to add gloss.

Peterborough did at least pick up a try bonus point with a fourth score on the final whistle, but it was Phoenix who secured their fifth win on the bounce.

The result moved the Doncaster side up to sixth in the Midlands Premier League standings.

They will hope to continue their winning run when they host Sandbach at Castle Park this Saturday (January 11).

Kick-off is 2.15pm.
