Cricket round-up: Doncaster Town off the mark thanks to captain Bilal Anjam

Anjam’s patient 77 not out from 143 balls anchored Town’s innings of 166-7 from 50 overs.

The former Yorkshire youngster then chipped in with two wickets and a vital run out as Hallam fell eight runs short in reply, closing on 158-9.

Joe Gallagher (26) joined Anjam in a key partnership of 55 for Doncaster’s sixth wicket but runs were hard to come by against a tight attack.

Hallam were in trouble at 63-5 but Jack Snelling and Jamie Stone’s 53-run stand for the sixth wicket gave the visitors hope.

Two quick wickets, including Anjam running out Stone for 37, gave Town the upper hand and the 2019 champions held on for their first Premier Division win of the new season at the third attempt.

Tickhill, who welcome Doncaster to Alderson Drive this Saturday, were unable to build on their win over Whitley Hall as they went down by 35 runs at Wickersley Old Village.

Hugh Teesdale took 4-48 but Wickersley posted a competitive 228-8 from their 50 overs, including 75 not out from Gareth Purshouse.

Openers Mark Cummins (46) and Ross Diver (31) got the chase off to an encouraging start but the innings collapsed from 71-2 to 100-6.

Skipper Alex Rowland (27) led a determined rearguard effort but Tickhill closed on 193 all out.

Sprotbrough’s perfect start in the Championship ended in a disappointing home defeat to Wath.

The hosts collapsed to 85 all out as Rob Barlow snared 4-5 and Jack Whitlam claimed 4-29.

Wath lost both openers cheaply but Ainsley Swallow (36) and Luke Roddison (27) helped them to a six wicket win, their first victory of the season.

Conisbrough suffered a third straight defeat as they lost by six wickets at Oughtibridge.

Jonathan Redfern top scored with 63 in the home side’s respectable 200 all out.

Jack Roberts then claimed 3-44 but could not prevent Oughtbridge reaching their target with six wickets and six overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten 91 from Hamzah Ilyas.

*Askern Welfare made it three wins from three in Division One of the Pontefract League with a 31-run triumph at Crofton Phoenix.

Ashley Towler made a valuable 36 to lift Welfare to a defendable 146 all out.

Thomas Webster (3-19) and Andrew Lunn (3-22) then starred with the ball to help dismiss the hosts for 115.

James Winstanley claimed a five-wicket haul for Hatfield Town in their victory at Streethouse.

Chasing 185, David Barrett carried his bat for 72 as Town won by eight wickets.

Jake Van Oorschot (44) and Alec Elliot (38) also chipped in.

Bentley Colliery eased to a nine wicket win over West Bretton in Division Five.

Daniel Glover took the first five wickets to fall and finished with 5-29 as Bretton slipped to 80 all out.

Mick King (2 7) and Tom Butterworth (35no) led a comfortable run chase.
