Armthorpe Welfare and Rossington Main set to return to competitive action in FA Vase

Welfare travel to NCEL Premier Division side Hemsworth MW in the FA Vase first qualifying round on Saturday before starting their Division One campaign at East Hull on Tuesday.

“We’ve drilled it into the lads what needs to happen if we are to have a successful season,” said Jackson. “It’s a good group of lads that we hope will work together to get the results we want.

“Like every other club, we want to start the season well and go from there. The obvious target is to be in around the promotion places but it’s not as easy as it sounds. There are plenty of decent teams in the league all wanting the same thing.

“The lads have worked hard so far and that will need to continue in the coming games. It’s going to be very much a squad game this season with the extra midweek fixtures.”

He added: “We begin with a tough FA Vase match. We’ll go into that looking to give Hemsworth a competitive game and see where that takes us.

“We’ve had some decent pre-season results but also a couple of well below par performances.

“I think we’ve seen some lads really step up. Unfortunately we’ve had a few serious injuries which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to put a squad together.”

Rossington Main, meanwhile, host Nostell MW in the FA Vase on Saturday (3pm). They start their league campaign at Winterton Rangers on Wednesday.
