SWORD star Nathan Jopling gave the English Youth Fencing Championships his best stab - and came away with a silver medal.
Nathan, 12, was in fine form at the London based under 13 tournament earlier this month, beating the reigning British champion in the quarter finals before missing out on first place by a single point.
Despite competing in the category above his age group, Nathan also edged past champion Jamie Craize, previously undefeated for two years, 10-9 in the last eight.
“It’s great, he’s mixing it in the top ten of his age group in the country,” said father Ian.
“We’re trying to keep his feet on the ground, but the aim is to win one of the nationals in the next few years.”
