SOUTH Yorkshire could have two world champions in the next three months.
Sheffield’s Kell Brook takes on American Devon Alexander at welterweight on February 23.
Now, The Star understands, Jamie McDonnell may take on Mexican Julio Ceja for the bantamweight title, as it appears ruling IBF king Leo Santa Cruz may vacate to go up a weight.
Sheffield promoter Dennis Hobson declined to discuss the matter today, other than saying McDonnell, 26, would love a crack at Ceja or American Sergio Perales, who is high up the ratings.
McDonnell, currently on holiday in Egypt, is supremely content he can join the world elite after winning a title final eliminator against Darwin Zamora, from Nicaragua, at Sheffield Arena last October, where he was chief support to Brook.
Meanwhile, Hobson will stage a show at Don Valley stadium on March 2, including two Doncaster heavyweights Carl Spencer and Dave Allen.
