Tennis round-up: Wheatley Hills make KO Cup progress

Wheatley Hills progressed in the Gainsborough Evening League KO Cup at the expense of Scotter’s third team.

The Doncaster club served up a 122-63 victory in the handicap competition where each of the three pairs play three rubbers of 13 games.

John Sculthorpe and Lee Ridgill won 11-2, 12-1, 11-2, John Peters and Jack Pye 10-3, 12-1, 13-0 and Steve Turner and Alan Sutton 8-5, 12-1, 13-0.

Wheatley also beat Scotter 45-29 in their North Kelsey Mixed Weekend League, in which results are decided on timed tennis based on a game tally.

Alan Sutton and Lewis Nicholl won their men’s doubles rubber 9-4 with Rebecca Sutton and Pam Green taking the ladies’ rubber 8-5.

Wheatley won both the mixed doubles, Nicholl and Green netting a 7-5, 7-5 victory and Sutton and Sutton triumphing 7-6, 7-4.

Wheatley Hills beat Epworth A 3-1 in a rain-affected South Yorkshire Ladies’ League clash.

Pam Green and Rebecca Sutton won both their rubbers – their win over Epworth’s first string courtesy of the tie break.

Rosy Crowley and Lynn Morrison lost against the Epworth first pair on a tie-break but beat their second sting counterparts.

The team lost 4-0 against defending champions Doncaster C.

Green and Crowley lost both their games against Jayne Hale and Abi Rodwell and Pat Binstead and Laura Twidale on a tie break. Sutton and Annettte Hill also drew a blank.

Doncaster claimed a 7-2 Sheffield Men’s League Division One win at Rustlings.

Mick Hague and Jake Prime and Kevin Clegg and Ed Morris both won all three rubbers with Dave Cole and Luis Sylvester chipping in with a single win.

The club’s B team made it four Division Two wins from five when beating visiting Welbeck 8-1.

Chris Brocklehurst and Simon Causier and Ricky Mogali and Andrew McDougall were both undefeated with Steve Fairham and Liam Walsh dropping just one rubber.

The C team ended a run of Division Three defeats with a 8-1 win over Grove B.

Steve Barrass and Ged Salsbury, Dan Seddon and Jonathan Warren shared six of the winning rubbers with Andy Jenkins and Kev Waller weighing in with a brace.

The D team posted a 9-0 Division Five win at Brentwood B. Dave Walton and Jacob Bennett, Dave Warren and Will Skidmore and Chris Warren and Dan Butterfield were all unbeaten.
