Tennis round-up: Wheatley Hills ease to doubles win

Wheatley Hills served up a 51-17 win over Grange Park in their opening game of their North Kelsey Men’s Weekend Doubles.

Alan Sutton and Lewis Nicoll won both their rubbers (15-3 and 15-2) in a competition based on games won in a timed tennis format.

Steve Turner and Lee Ridgill also won both rubbers 10-7 and 11-5.

The club also posted a 5-4 Gainsborough Evening League victory away at Walkeringham.

Alan Sutton and Led Ridgill (7-1, 7-1, 1-7) won two of their three rubbers as did Steve Turner and Pam Green (7-1, 7-3, 4-7).

Danny Hill and Pete Chappell (4-7, 7-0, 4-7) completed the Doncaster club’s tally.

The club’s South Yorkshire Ladies’ Two-Couple League team beat Moorgate B 32-25 on games won after it ended 2-2.

No 1 pairing Rebecca Sutton and Lynn Morrison won both their rubbers in straight sets but Olivia Parkin and debutant Jane Scott tasted defeat in both their matches despite producing a valiant effort.

Doncaster bagged a 5-4 Sheffield & District Ladies’ League Division One victory, beating visiting Graves 5-4 in their penultimate fixture.
