Taekwondo sensation Mason Yarrow has been named Team GB Cadet of the Year for 2014.
Mason, 13, of Ultimate Taekwondo in Armthorpe, was presented with his award by Doncaster’s World and European Championship gold medallist Sarah Stevenson.
The Hungerhill School pupil also claimed the Fighter of the Year accolade from his club, which is run by Kathy Hook, another World and European Championship gold medalist, and is tipped to reach the top in the sport.
His recent awards come off the back of an impressive year, in which Mason competed in the Junior World Championships in Azerbaijan where he narrowly missed out on the medals, defeated in the quarter-final by an Iranian entrant.
This year he will be travelling to Spain, Austria and the Netherlands in the first quarter of the year to fight in major competitions in preparation for the European Championships in France in July, where he hopes to represent his country.
He will follow up the European Championships with the World Championships in August, which takes place in Korea, where he will again hope to participate for Team GB.
Mason’s ambition is to compete in the 2020 Olympics and win a medal in honour of his grandad, who passed away earlier this month.
