DONCASTER Mustangs went top of BAFL Division One North Conference after their first ever win over the East Kilbride Pirates.
Touchdowns from Martin Pepper and quarterback Graham Lightfoot (pictured left) earned the Mustangs a fine 13-6 win at the Keepmoat Stadium athletics arena on Sunday.
The club now sits proudly on top of the table with a 3-1 record.
Mustangs’ new-look defence has started the season in impressive fashion and it was defences on top as both sides went into the break having failed to open the scoring.
The deadlock was finally broken in the third quarter when Kilbride’s Craig Dowler wrong footed the Mustangs to score on a 26-yard scamper up the middle.
But the home side were in no mood to be beaten and levelled at 6-6 when Lightfoot connected with Pepper from 12-yards out.
Lightfoot then won it when he fooled the Pirates defence with a fake hand off before diving spectacularly into the endzone.
Pete Rogers added the extra point and the Mustangs were able to run down the clock to secure a memorable win against the Scottish outfit.
