Doncaster Athletic Club men’s captain Martin James is still looking for his first victory in the Sprotbrough 6.5k road race which formed part of the 67th Sprotbrough Scouts Gala.
James, who has finished in the top three on several occasions in recent years, had to settle for the runners-up spot behind young Doncaster AC prospect Joe Phillips who clocked a fast time of 23 minutes 35 seconds.
James, who finished second overall in a time of 24.41, didn’t go home empty-handed, however, after winning the men’s 40-59 years race.
Steve Barker (Danum Harriers) was third overall in a time of 25.16.
Doncaster’s Joe Warren (Doncaster), fourth overall in a time of 25.42, won the boys’ 12-15 years race.
Charlie Lindley (29.49) showed his rivals a clean pair of heels in the boys’ 8-12 years race.
Mike Bellas (34.18) won the men’s over-60s race.
Mia McGrath (38.15) took the honours in the women’s 8-12 years race.
Cassandre Le Went (29.56), the first female finisher, also won the girls’ 12-15 race.
Martin’s wife Rose (30.26) won the women’s 40-59 years race.
Doncaster AC clubmate Isobel Hossack, who won the over-40s race in 1999, claimed victory in the women’s over-60s race in a time of 39.50.
