Jason Cunningham has lost his Commonwealth featherweight title after being stopped by big-hitting Reece Bellotti.
The Woodlands fighter managed to get up after being dropped in the fifth round but the damage had been done by the power of rising-star Bellotti at London’s historic York Hall.
The aggressive Bellotti looked to walk Cunningham down from the first bell but was a little erratic with his arsenal, missing plenty.
Cunningham showed very good composure to withstand barrages of shots and fire back with very good accuracy.
A thrilling affair was a real battle between accuracy and aggression, Bellotti charging in and the more experienced Cunningham landing the more quality punches.
And such clean work arguably had Cunningham winning the fight on the scorecards.
But the beginning of the end came in the late stages of the fifth when Cunningham was downed with a big right hook to the jaw.
Cunningham survived the count but was stopped early in the sixth. Another huge hook from Bellotti dropped Cunningham’s arms and the Watford fighter followed up with punishing clean shots which led the referee to step in and wave the fight off.
