Hockey men suffer first league defeat

Doncaster lost for the first time this season in the men’s Conference North as they went down 3-2 at Bowdon.

Jonathan Redfern’s clever cross was turned in at the far post by Travis Cresswell to give Doncaster an early lead.

The visitors continued to press but were rocked by two goals in two minutes midway through the half. Oliver Stoddard netted a penalty corner at the second attempt before Ben White ran clear to score.

Josh Pettinger slammed home the equaliser after good work from Henry Pymm just before the break.

But Bowdon claimed victory from a controversial second half penalty corner converted by Stoddart.

Loughborough Students visit Town Fields on Sunday.

n Penny Ellis scored twice on her debut to help Doncaster’s ladies to a 3-0 win at home to Didsbury Northern. Holly Brown was also on the scoresheet.

The ladies travel to Kendal on Saturday.
