DONCASTER lost ground with the Men’s Conference North leaders following a surprise 3-2 home defeat to Brooklands MU.

Jonathan Redfern gave the hosts a third minute lead with a neat finish.

And it was raining goals in the early stages at a drenched Town Field as Brooklands almost immediately levelled courtesy of Stuart Stanway’s penalty corner.

Dave Flanagan then struck midway through the first half to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game.

It was a lead they manged to hold onto until the 53rd minute when Matthew Parker drilled home a penalty corner for Doncaster, raising hopes of third league victory out of four.

But Leigh Hodgson’s side were to be undone by David Seddon’s late winner - dropping to fifth in the early standings as a result.

Doncaster travel to Leek on Sunday.

The Town Field ladies, meanwhile, endured a miserable trip to Loughborough where they were thrashed 7-0 by the promotion chasing students.

Previously unbeaten, Doncaster fell behind from open play after just three minutes - and their afternoon got worse and worse as the hosts rattled in another six goals without reply. Fifth placed Doncaster hosts Northampton Saints on Saturday (noon).
