A first minute strike sent Kingston-upon-Hull on their way into the next round of the Yvonne Horner Shield as Epworth Ladies Hockey Club slipped to a 2-0 defeat.
Epworth regrouped after the early setback and worked hard to make it difficult against their higher division opponents as Katie Chester, and umpire’s players of the game Esther Latham and Jenny Hickson worked tirelessly. Sarah Parkin and Paul Tagg posed an attacking threat.
Hull countered and Epworth’s players’ player Angela Young kept them at bay with some excellent goalkeeping.
The second half was a more even affair, however, 10 minutes from time a mix-up at the top of the D led to a penalty corner which was converted by the hosts. Epworth could not find a breakthrough.
