Hallamshire set sights on top 20 place

The National Road Relay Championhips take place at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, tomorrow.

Hallamshire, 24th last year, will be looking for a place in the top 20 this time following their recent eighth place in the Northern Championships.

They are led by Andy Heyes, second fastest in last year’s race and he is backed up by Zak Mellard, Phil Cooper, Tom Bains, Connor Milnes and Gavin Keight.

In the women’s four stage race Rotherham, sixth last year, have a strong team. Sam Johnson and Natasha Hatswell remain from last year’s team and they are joined by recent addition to Rotherham’s ranks, Fiona Davies, and Jess Fawcett.

The same venue is used for the young athletes three stage relays with local clubs in action.

Strongest medal prospects are probably Rotherham in the under 17 boys race having won the Northern title.

Local distance runners will be in action on Sunday in the Cusworth 10K, based at Cusworth Hall and organised by Doncaster AC.

The race, starting at 10:30am, incorporates the Yorkshire Veterans Championship. Organisers expect to be able to accommodate entries on the day but these will not be eligible for the veterans championship.
