Teenager Brad Sinden is set to follow in the footsteps of his heroes after being selected by GB Taekwondo to compete in the Junior European Championships later this year.
Reigning Commonwealth champion Brad, from Stainforth, clinched the -55kg title in his age group in Scotland last year.
The 16-year-old’s recent successes also include gold at the Dutch Open last year and five gold medals in championships so far this year.
He will represent his country at the -61kg level at the European Championships in Latvia in October.
Brad trains at Kings Taekwondo in Hatfield and has been training there since the age of four.
“I was excited to be selected for the European Championships,” said Brad.
“This is something I have been working hard towards and to get there is a great feeling.
“I’m really proud to be representing my country and hope this is just another step towards making it to the Olympics in the future.”
Brad is one of the athletes in the Doncaster area who is helped by SportsAid, a charity which works to support young athletes on their way to becoming the next generation of sports champions.
Jo Addie, Regional Fundraising and Development Manager said: “We are really pleased for Brad.
“It’s great to see him being selected for the GB junior team.
“It shows the dedication he has for his sport.
“Brad is self-funded and looking for support to help him go to the European Championships. We are pleased to be able to offer him some help with his costs.”
