Jamie McDonnell may have switched on Doncaster’s Christmas lights last night but he is still in the dark over whether he will fight next weekend.

The Hatfield bantamweight was gearing up for a return to action next Saturday on the undercard of the massive world title bout between Carl Froch and George Groves in Manchester.

But his bout has yet to be confirmed as his on-going dispute with long time manager Dennis Hobson rumbles on.

McDonnell will go in front of the British Boxing Board of Control on Monday to put his case forward for ending his contract with Hobson.

Only once the hearing is finished will the 27-year-old know whether he can make his first outing under the banner of Matchroom Sports.

“It’s not been an ideal build-up but I’m still training as though I’m fighting,” McDonnell told the Star.

“It’d have been nice for us to be able to do our homework on the opponent but it’s not as if it’s going to be a world title fight.

“Saying that though, it’ll be like a world title fight for the other kid because if he beats me he knows he’s going to catapult himself right up there.

“Hopefully I’ll go there on Monday and they’ll let me fight.

“I’m just going to give my side of the story and I’m confident the Board will see that I’m in the right.

“All I want to do is fight.

“I’ve been training for three months, I’m ready to go and I want to put all this outside stuff behind me.”
