Over 100 awards, ranging from members aged just eight to senior vets, were handed out at Doncaster Athletic Club’s recent annual presentation dinner at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The main awards were won by:
Lucy Chappell - now training with Jessica Ennis-Hill – and ranked sixth in the UK in under-20 high jump and 10th in the under-20 indoor pentathlon. She represented Great Britain in a number of events last year.
Nicole Lannie – South Yorkshire Schools’ long jump champion, Northern Athletics under-11 girls’ long jump and shot champion, Yorkshire under-13 girls’ 80m, shot, high jump and long jump champion, Northern indoor under-13 girls’ silver medallist.
Sophie Mills, a silver medallist in the under-17 200m in Welsh Championships.
She was also a silver medallist in the 200m and bronze medallist in 100m in the Nottinghamshire County Championships.
Leaha Dixon and William Baxter won the club’s annual disability awards after representing England at the CP World Games in Nottingham in August.
Endurance Awards went to teenagers Molly Butterworth and George Rowland.
Molly won her age group in the Town Centre 5k and finished fourth in the South Yorkshire Cross Country Championships.
She also won the Doncaster Schools qualifiers for the South Yorkshire English Schools’ Cross Country Championships and gained her first Yorkshire County vest at the Northern Athletics Inter County Championships where she finished second.
George finished second in both the 800m and 1500m at the Nottinghamshire County Championships and was third in the 800m at the South Yorkshire Schools’ Championships.
He ran the fastest leg in under-13 English National Relay Championships and won the Doncaster Schools’ Cross Country Championships in his age group.
He was also fourth in the Nottingham County Cross Country Championships and was selected for Nottinghamshire in the CAU Inter County Champs and the South Yorkshire team County Team for the ESAA Cross Country Championships.
Another of the major award winners, Aiden Davies, was unable to make the event due to his Great Britain commitments at an international combined events meeting in Spain where he captained the men’s under-23 team.
